Rhythmic Stability = High Energy Perfomrance

Here is an ensemble and rehearsal thought for the day:

Rhythmic stability is the key to a clean and energetic performance.  Way too many young musicians think that a fast performance is the key to an energetic performance and that is not at all accurate.  In order to achieve the "wave" of energy in ensemble performance, the group MUST be able to play passages cleanly and stylistically accurately at a moderate tempo, before moving to a faster tempo.  If they push tempo in the slower rehearsal pace, it will definitely push at the faster tempo.  This is so hard for kids to learn and do!  We have to keep on top of it in order to achieve clean, energetic performances as ensemble leaders.

Just sayin'!

Peace.
Scott
